Vladimir Putin turned 59 on Friday holding a party for himself at one of his luxurious Moscow residences with his old friends Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi and former German chancellor Gerhard Schroeder.
Mr Putin is currently Russia's prime minister but is set to controversially return to the Russian presidency next May for a third time after an election he is expected to easily win in March.
The former KGB spy is entitled to serve two six year back-to-back terms which would keep him in power until 2024 at which point he would be 71.
